The Humane Society of the United States is devoted to protecting animals through numerous services and initiatives, including shelters, animal advocacy, and animal care and rescue. The organization relies on the generosity of people willing to take in rescue animals.
More than 2.7 million animals are euthanized each year because shelters are overcrowded. The Humane Society’s adoption fee includes spaying/neutering and vaccination services, so rescuing an animal saves new pet owners money.
Adopting a rescue animal also makes space at the shelter for another animal and discourages the cruelty of “puppy mills,” or commercial dog breeding facilities. Finally, perhaps the best reason to adopt is to save the animal’s life and change its life for the better.
